Make learning fun and bring the past to life
Book an education workshop at Hexham Old Gaol and learn about life in and around the Gaol and the Shire.
With four different workshops available, we can offer activities for reception class through to Key Stage 3.

Tudor day
KS2 and KS3
Gaol break! Learn about the events that led to the Gaolbreak in 1538. Session includes replica object handling, a tour of the Gaol and a chance to create some drama.
Tudor daily life. What was life like for the Tudors? Including costume, dancing, pomander making, replica object handling and the chance to learn a courtly dance! £5.00 per child. More information
Medieval life, Crime & Punishment
KS2 and KS3
Life in the Gaol and crime and punishment handling.
Stop thief: look at the prisoner profiles, handle replica objects and use deduction skills in this interactive activity.
Plague! Learn about the darker side of medieval life in this interactive talk with objects. Medieval Activities: make your own quill, leather bracelets, lavender bag and count medieval money! Medieval Hexham walk. Session costs £5.00 per child. More information
Life of a Border Reiver
Reception and KS1
Hear the story of Wee Archie and Kinmont Willie and learn about this famous Border Reiver. Includes replica object handling. A chance to look around Hexham Old Gaol (including dressing up, brass rubbings and other activities!) Session costs £2.50 per child. More information

KS2 and KS3
Option 1:

Option 2:
Life in the Gaol and crime and punishment handling
CSI Gaolbreak. Go back in time to discover what has happened and how so you can make your report to the King.
